Finally after all that wind and rain we are enjoying sunny days and brighter evenings. The temperatures still aren’t great but there is all sorts happening in the garden.
The bird song is brilliant at the moment and all day long you can hear the call of nuthatches and the short screech from the Greater Spotted Woodpecker as they fly back and forth over the river. Both are regular visitors to the bird feeders.
Tadpoles and newts are developing well in the pond and every day there is new growth on the flowers and shrubs. Our new hens have settled in well, the ex battery hens now have feathers again and six out of the twelve are productive again.
This is a beautiful time of year for walking, the colours are so crisp and clear. We managed a fantastic walk in the foothills of Cader Idris a few weekends ago, a sprinkling of snow on the tops and 360 degree views left us feeling so much better for the excursion. A pint of the excellent local Cwrw Cader in The Red Lion on the way home gave us a good healthy glow.
Our beaches took a battering in the storms and changed the landscape of many, but the promenade at Aberystwyth is open again and the storms have revealed more petrified forests at Tywyn.
